Offtime in October

I've decided to take a break from social media for the entire month of October. Until November 1, I will not check Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, or Twitter. I may post from time to time when there's an update here on the blog, but other than that, nothing. I've removed the apps from my Nexus so I won't even be receiving notifications.

Lately I've just become keenly aware of how much time I waste on social media. That's precious time that I could be spending on other things that are more important and more worthwhile. So, here are some things I hope to do with my newfound spare time this month...

Get more steps. At the end of almost every day now, my Fitbit looks up at me with these sad, pitiful eyes. (No, really...I have the Flex model, which shows me my progress throughout the day by lighting up one dot for every 2,000 steps I've taken. Most days, I only have two little dots, and I think they look like sad, pitiful eyes.) I really want to get more active so that I can get closer to that elusive goal of 10,000 steps a day, and right now I have further incentive. Tom's office is doing a walking challenge later this month, and they've invited employees' spouses to join too. For each day you walk at least 10,000 steps, you're entered for a chance to win a trip for two to Hawaii! You know I'm all over that.

Read more. Definitely more Bible, but also just reading more books in general. At the beginning of the year, I challenged myself to read 12 books by the end of the year, one book for each month. Sounds like a manageable goal, right? Well, guess how many I've read so far...two. That means I have three months to finish 10 books. That's just not gonna happen if I'm looking at Pinstatwitface all the time. So whenever I'm on my Nexus and I'm tempted to pull up one of those apps, I'll just pull up my Kindle app instead. Ha!

Tackle some projects around the house. We've been in this house for over a year now, and there are still some rooms that don't even have pictures on the walls. I cringe a little when I think about how many at-home projects already could have been completed by now had I not wasted so much time.

These are just a few things I'm hoping to accomplish during Offtime October, and I've gotta say I'm pretty excited about them!

Off to read a book while getting some steps and tackling a project,
E
